Egg Salad Sandwich Recipe
A basic egg salad sandwich recipe consists of some hard boiled eggs, dressing, and some chopped onion. That may not be the best egg salad sandwich recipe but we can certainly enhance it in a variety of ways.I have never made the same recipe for egg salad twice because I like trying different ingredients each time I make it. As I am usually making it for myself I'll throw just about anything in it (within reason!) to see how it tastes. I haven't had to throw any of these experiments away but I'm far from making the perfect egg salad that everyone in the world would like. The best egg salad recipe is always suited to a person's individual taste. Having said that we are going to look at some different ways on how to make egg salad by giving you some variations on the basic ingredients: 1-The Egg The best tasting eggs of course are from free range chickens rather than factory fed chickens but paying 5 bucks for a dozen organic eggs can seem a little steep. I usually try to buy eggs from a local producer but if I'm in a large grocery store I'll buy the cheaper ones. For most egg salad sandwich recipes you can figure 1 egg per sandwich will be the standard amount needed. Most recipes call for 4 eggs but if you are making it just for yourself cut the recipe in half. 2-Vegetables As I said before the standard vegetable for an egg salad recipe is some chopped onion. But as always I say if you don't like it-don't use it! There are many things you can use instead of onions or with onions if you like. For a standard 4 egg recipe I usually add about 1/4 cup of chopped onion as well as 1/4 cup each of any other vegetable I happen to have. For most of these I thin slice them and chop them up small so they blend into the salad. Here's a list of some popular ones: Green Onion Celery Bell Pepper-any colour Carrot-shredded Mushrooms Olives-any kind 3-Other Cheese-Any kind, cubed or shredded. Bacon-Fried crispy and crumbled, 1-2 strips per egg. Smoked Salmon Deli Meat-any kind. These ingredients can be mixed into the egg salad itself or put on the bread first and the egg mixture added after. 4-Dressing The standard dressing is plain mayonnaise but there are many ways to spice it up a little. You can mix in other condiments and spices to give it a little extra flair. Here are some ideas: -Spices & Herbs: Paprika Dill Parsley Oregano Basil Salt & Pepper -Condiments: Mustard-any kind Horseradish Pickle-any kind-chopped Relish Lemon or Lime Juice-1-2 tsp. per 4 egg salad recipe. Chili Paste or other Hot Sauce-be careful with this one! The standard amount of dressing is 1-2 tablespoons for a 4 egg salad so if you are adding more than one type of condiment do so sparingly. 5-Greens & Vegetables These ingredients are to be added to the sandwich before adding your egg salad mix: Lettuce, Spinach or any other greens. Tomato Cucumber Sprouts-any kind Here is a quick one I made while writing this page:
