The Joy Of Cooking-All About Salads & Dressings is one of a series of specialized cook books from the famous Joy of Cooking series. Some recipes are all new while others are old standards that have evolved over time to become classics again. About the Authors: Irma S. Rombauer self-published the first version of the Joy of Cooking in 1931. Her daughter, Marion Rombauer Becker illustrated the book and became co-author of later editions. The book became a best-seller in 1936 after being picked up by a commercial printing house. There have been numerous updates of the book and its spinoffs over the years, the most recent supervised by Ethan Becker, grandson of Irma and son of Marion. , an interesting biography by Anne Mendelson. About the Book: This hardcover book has lots of pictures, tips & techniques, and many interesting salad recipes. There is a good variety of simple recipes side by side with dishes requiring more interesting ingredients and preparation. The detailed section on salad greens covers a wide variety of lettuces, cabbages and herbs with an illustrated page on preparing and dressing greens for a salad. The rest of the book is mostly recipes and pictures, of which there are many. Starting with Green Salads, it moves on to Fruit & Molded Salads, Bean & Grain Salads, Fish & Seafood Salads, Meat & Poultry Salads, and Salad Dressings. All throughout the book there are little sidebars with helpful information on ingredients, substitutions and preparation techniques. There are lots of full page pictures of completed dishes, as well as illustrated smaller pictures of certain ingredients and cooking techniques.
